THE BLANDAFF

The night was getting cold as time passed, the stars twinkled in the black velvet sky and rain started pouring over the rooftops of buildings. I was the only one in the dark, medicine-smelling ward of the hospital. I myself did not know the reason for being in such a wretched place on earth. This was the Blandaff, a hospital known for its mysterious and unexplained happenings. I was told about this place and vowed never to lay a footstep into it for as long as i live. But now, here i am, head wrapped in white bandages and stuck on a glucose drip by the bed in the Blandaff's ward. The musty smell of medicine obliterated the smell of the ward. Some memories came back. I remembered myself walking home in a dark alley last night. Something hard hit me on the head and I blanked out and when i regain consciousness, here i was. Dewy, my bestfriend had visited me this afternoon and told me about the Blandaff.

It was once a home to a satanic creature named the Bludger. This particular monster was known to lure its prey - human beings by emitting a scent into the houses in nearby towns. The Bludger would then pull apart the body parts of its prey alive like how we pull off a chicken joint. The mutilated body parts would then be eaten by the creature and the decapitated head would be hung in the basement of its lair to serve as a decorative item on the wall. Any interlopers too, would suffer the same fate. No mercy was given.

After a thousand years, investigations were carried out but there was no evidence. Soon, a hospital, the Blandaff was built on the very spot. To this day it stands, and its history long forgotten by the townfolks.

The story was fallacious and hard to believe but dawned on me that the creature still existed because i had heard strange sounds while going to the lavatory in the middle of the past few nights since my admission. I was curious to find out so i waited in vain for the hospital's lights out. I slipped on my bedroom slippers and made my way out of my ward with my drip and took a lift down to the basement of the Blandaff. There, i saw a yellow door with a sign reading "Medcine Storage Riser". As i walked towards that door, i saw another old and cracking oak brown door with a sign reading " Enter At Your Own Risk".

This did not put me off. I was determined to find out the source of the strange sounds. I made zealous steps to the oak door and opened it. The door creaked and slammed behind me. It was pitch dark and the room had untolerable stench of rotting and decomposed bodies. I walked clumsily over what i thought were bones and skulls of some creature. I did not know. It was a conjecture. All i wanted to do at the moment was to find some source of light and find out what i had been tripping over. I found it, switched it on and gasped in horror. My heart jumped out of my mouth. The ground was littered with skulls and bones and the walls were hanging with yet more skulls while the floor had the thin layer of blood. As i walked around, exploring, i could hear the squelching of blood beneath my feet. It was disgusting! The whole room was like a dug up graveyard. The stench was unbearable. Instincts told me to turn and run away but the door was locked so i had no choice but to venture deeper into this clandestine.

A creature or something stood before me. It had a slimy green body with two stubby legs and four long arms. A cyclop eye was situated in the middle of its face which was accompanied by a big mouth joined by two sausage-like lips which were accompanied by razor-sharp teeth. It was approximately 8 feet tall. The Bludger! The myths and stories were true after all! I was too shocked and terrified to do anything! My feet were rooted to the ground. The monster, with its massive bulk blocking the whole view of my surroundings approached me with asperity. A thought came into my once empty brain: Was i going to be one of its victims and die just like that? NO!!! I couldn't take the chance! With swift actions, i pulled the drip needle out of my vein. The monster grabbed me by my waist and hoisted me off the ground, into the air. I could smell its breath. An unbearable stench of rotting meat filled my lungs to its full capacity. I almost blanked out at the smell of it.

I lifted my hand with the remaining strength left in my phlegmatic body and sunk the needle into the monster's green body...
